Description: Class begins with a series of floor exercises designed to awaken the feet, spine, center and pelvis. Next, standing center work focuses on technical exercises supported by proper alignment. The class culminates in rhythmical, full-bodied across the floor movement combinations that incorporate the use of turns, jumps, working in and out of the floor, detailed gestures, and diverse dynamics.

The principles emphasized in this class are universally beneficial to dance training and include using the power of the center to initiate, control, and radiate movement, plus pelvis initiation, and the use of under and over curves. Informing this class is Green's certified background in BodyMind Fitness. Exercises are guided with the safe use of body mechanics and neuromuscular imagery, highlighting movement that follows the logic of the body's innate spirals and bone rhythms.

Germination is a donation-based community dance & movement class with a rotating teacher roster. Perfect for a movement lover's Friday afternoon, exploring new styles, and meeting fellow artists!



+ 11/2: Contemporary Play with Solana Hoffman-Carter


This class will focus on how movement has the capacity to free us physically and mentally. While looking to find a release of tension, we will play with shifting weight in and out of the floor, inversions, and eating up space. In order to build warmth in our bodies, the class will start with a slow repetitive movement building towards moving across the floor, suspending in the air and finding a way to put everything together in a combination.


+ 11/9: TRE (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises) with Beth Elliott


Developed by Dr. David Bercelli, TRE is a simple exercise technique designed to allow the body to release stress and tension. Originally developed to reduce the impact of traumatic experiences on the body, TRE is beneficial for everyone. TRE will be offered by Beth McKee Elliott, a dance educator, choreographer, yoga instructor, TRE Instructor-in-Training and Core Energetics Practitioner-in-Training.

+ 11/16: Modern to Contemporary Phraseology with Catey Ott


Catey will lead the class with an opening warm-up on the floor which includes concepts of Pilates and yoga. A center barre will follow, made of classic and contemporary styles using both ballet and modern vocabulary, and then modified into a flow with breath and rhythm. A round of "Phraseology" filters in next, which melds technique, contemporary movement, floor work, athleticism, musicality, and inner-rhythm into motion. Brief movement sections will be taught, reversed, made to change facings, varied and then linked to form a 3 minute dance by the end.


+ 11/30: Kinetic Awareness: Practice in Proprioception with Emily Aiken


Kinetic Awareness® is a body/mind connection and re-education technique that cultivates mindfulness by utilizing slow, intentional movement and movement on top of rubber balls as a tactile aid. Kinetic Awareness® recognizes the power of the proprioceptive sense, an innate sensing of energies and a calling upon of internal body knowledge that brings a fuller understanding of one’s self in space. The practice of Kinetic Awareness® aims to facilitate attentiveness, unlock creativity, expose excess tension that can lead to stress or injury, and encourage overall psychophysical wellness.
