The Korean phrase “거의 다왔는데” means reaching for something that is just a little too far, but possible to obtain, roughly translated to English as “almost there.” Yoo and Dancers’ new work is about our collective dream to reach our desires in a modern, chaotic world. The dancers represent a crowd becoming a stampede, a warning of one possible outcome of our current path. Almost There was developed during Yoo and Dancers’ three-month residency at Dixon Place.

International choreographer Hee Ra Yoo founded the New York modern dance company “Yoo and Dancers” in 2009 after completing the MFA program at NYU Tisch. Before moving to New York City in 2007, Ms. Yoo danced with the Korean National Ballet, the California Ballet, the San Diego City Ballet, the Canberra Dance Theatre in Australia. Ms. Yoo has taught dance at universities in the US; Tulane University LA, Georgian Court University in NJ, and SUNY Brockport in NY. She has coached the Australian and Korean Olympic Gymnastics Teams. In New York City, Ms. Yoo has taught at Steps on Broadway, the Joffrey Ballet School, Dance New Amsterdam (Gibney Dance Center).

N/N Dance Collaborative

N/N Dance Collaborative presents a selection of dance works crafted in situ, where movement and location are fully integrated. Nancy Brier’s Breezeblocks (2019), Mother Earth Sings (2021) and Now Was Zen (2021) are works that submerge us in otherworldly environments and take us out into raw nature – searching for humanity’s delicate balance between social and environmental, between dysfunction and transformational change. Nicole Speletic’s DNA (2019) and Dis-Ease (2020-21) peer into internal spaces, the ones deep within ourselves and the ones that we intimately inhabit - places which quietly bear witness to the lived moments we nightly withstand or daily pass through. (created in Ljubljana, Slovenia)

N/N Dance Collaborative is a newly formed artistic platform to bring together the creative works of Nancy Brier and Nicole Speletic. A. Music Video Awards, 2019 Berlin Underground Film Festival and the 2019 Amsterdam, London and Paris Lift-Off Film Festivals.  She is in post-production for her latest dance short film, There's More To Life Than This, and pre-production for her experimental dance short, Three Parts of a Whole. Nicole Speletic is a dance artist and theorist from New York City. Most recently she has been dancing with Robin Becker Dance (Into Sunlight), Human Kinetics, Born Dancing, Sue Bernhard/Danceworks, and in her own projects both in the US and EU.  Her  work has been shown in Judson Church, the Limon Institute, Long Island University, Tilles Center for the Arts, Green Space, and many other performance venues.
