Almost, is a dance of labored effort to shift and adjust oneself, to fit in and out of learned and imposed identities. Arrested breath, black outs, and bodily contortions disrupts an internal narrative not fully understood. Physical release and undulations in the body are performed while long repetitions of movement allow for glimpses of bird-like freedom in contrast to held moments of captivity. Visual collaborators Jennifer Paar and Larry Jackson, create an austere white space full of fabric, paper, and piping to frame these societal constructs with the slow deliberate focus of shedding and unraveling. armageddon or sunrise or something is a duet made for and by Mauriah Kraker and Leah Wilks. The work is built on scores investigating exhaustion, endurance and the sensuality/the geographic of both internal and external landscapes. The duo grapples with the necessity of proximity to each other: they shake, rumble and drag each other to the ground, lift each other up, carry + sing to each other. Throughout the work the body becomes landscape, home, monument, spellcaster, caretaker, boundary, and the location of desire.
