ABOUT THE CHOREOGRAPHERS
Carmen Caceres is a dance artist originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has been creating dance works in Argentina and NY since 2009. Her works have been presented at renowned venues, including New York Live Arts, Judson Church, Danspace Project, The Martha Graham Studio, Dixon Place, Green Space, Triskelion Arts, The Mark Morris Dance Center, The Center at West Park, and the Center for Performance Research. In 2013, she founded DanceAction, a dance company that serves as a creative platform for producing collaborative, interdisciplinary performing arts works. She worked with artists such as Lisa Parra, Sarah Berges, Elia Mrak, and Jody Oberfelder as a performer and collaborator. Carmen is pursuing an MA in Dance Education at Hunter College, received a BA in Dance and Education at SUNY Empire, and studied at the former Merce Cunningham Studio. Aishwarya Madhav is an Indian classical dancer and an Arts Educator. She is an emerging artist known for her striking footwork and her storytelling expertise. She has performed widely across India and the US at prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center, Yale University, and 92Y, as well as at renowned festivals such as Drive East, Battery Dance, and Making Moves Dance Festival.
Maya Kulkarni is the creator of Shilpanatanam, a new dance vocabulary that has drawn enormous attention in dance circles and audiences in the US and India. She has choreographed 40 new works over the past 12 years in the Shilpanatanam style, blending classical forms with innovative themes.
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS & COLLABORATORS (PATHWAYS AND ARCHITECTURE)
Sofia Ameglio was born and raised in Argentina. She is a dancer, actress, Pilates instructor, and model. She studied at the National Dance School in Buenos Aires and fulfilled her dream of completing four years of study at the Martha Graham School in New York. Currently, she works for several dance companies and projects in New York and abroad, including DanceAction, AbunDance Dance Company, Nuevo Tango Ballet, and Dances For A Variable Population (DVP). She has performed at renowned venues in New York, such as the Center at West Park, Lincoln Center Plaza, and the Martha Graham Studio. https://www.carmencaceres.com/sofia-ameglio
Madi Dyke is a professional contemporary dancer based in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase with a BFA in Dance. Her performance credits include appearances at APAP at New York City Center, Peridance Presents Showcase, Steps Industry Showcase, Accent Dance Spring Season at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and The Mark O’Donnell Theater, among others. While in New York, Madi has been a company member with Accent Dance NYC and danced with Coredance Contemporary under the Artistic Direction of Rebecca McCormac. Facundo Ferreyra is originally from Córdoba, Argentina. He graduated from the Martha Graham School in New York and the School of Dance at Teatro San Martín in Buenos Aires. Facundo was a member of Graham 2 and worked with choreographers Bradley Shelver and Melis Yesiller. A highlight of his career was performing with the Martha Graham Dance Company for Dior. He is currently dancing with Dance Action, Alison Cook Beatty Dance, and Hanna Q Dance Company. In Argentina, he performed with the Ballet Oficial de la Fundación Julio Bocca and worked with Cecilia Szalkowicz, Leila Tschopp, and Mauricio Wainrot. https://www.carmencaceres.com/facundo-ferreyra
Chisato Fujii (she/they) is a Japanese dancer and emerging choreographer currently based in New York. She graduated summa cum laude with a BFA in Dance from the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase College. Chisato has performed works by renowned choreographers such as Merce Cunningham, Norbert De La Cruz, Tsai Hsi Hung, Trisha Brown, Kevin Wynn, Symara Sarai (Johnson), and the New Dance Group. Shizu Higa (she/they) is an Okinawan-Japanese American born in Tokyo and grew up in the Bay Area as a new-generation immigrant. While attaining a Cognitive Neuroscience (B.S.) and Sociology (M.A.) degree from Stanford University, she worked with Alex Ketley and Katie Faulkner. Shizu now moves as a freelance dancer based in NY and hopes to collaborate with other artists, equally excited to imagine a more beautiful reality that embraces multi-hyphenate identities. https://www.carmencaceres.com/shizu-higa
Horacio Martinez is an Argentine guitarist, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist based in New York City. His music blends jazz harmony with South American folkloric rhythms and storytelling, performed with guitar, voice, and traditional Andean instruments. He has collaborated with acclaimed artists including Arturo O’Farrill, Leo Genovese, Emilio Teubal, and Residente, bringing a distinctive voice to the city's Latin and jazz scenes. https://www.carmencaceres.com/horacio-martinez
Vadit Suwatcharapinun is an architect based in New York. His work ranges in scale from small hand-crafted installations to large, complex buildings. He considers all projects an act of collaboration, and his interest lies in the intersection of disciplines. He spends most of his time exploring how things are put together—and how to improve the way people live and work. Vadit has collaborated with Carmen Caceres and DanceAction on multiple occasions, creating sculptures and artistic artifacts that embody the concepts of their choreographic works.
Emilio Teubal is a pianist/composer/arranger from Argentina based in New York. He has recorded over 20 albums. Emilio identifies his artistry with the music of Latin America and the permanent elasticity of its stylistic limits. Emilio has performed in prestigious venues, such as The Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Blue Note, and Joe's Pub. He has been touring Japan since 2018, performing in Tokyo, Osaka, and Hiroshima. He has been a member of multiple ensembles, including the Pedro Giraudo Quartet, Pablo Lanouguere Quintet, Sergio Reyes's Romancero Latinoamericano, Erik Friedlander, and Satoshi Takeishi. https://www.emilioteubal.com/
Claire Gaylor (Green Space Lighting Designer) is a production technician and performer based in Astoria, Queens. She holds a BFA in Dance from Adelphi University with a minor in Theater Technology and Design. Favorite production credits include lighting programming for Monica Bill Barnes and Company, NYCDA, Ailey Junior, and BDC Children and Teens. She is thrilled to be joining the Green Space team as lighting designer this season!
Dance Entropy inaugurated Take Root 17 years ago with the goal to aid in the continued development and performance of new dance work of various aesthetics. This curated monthly series supports dance makers by providing our venue, Green Space, with technical and marketing support for a paired evening of work.
About Green Space: Responding to the need for professional rehearsal space in the New York metropolitan area, Valerie Green and Dance Entropy, Inc., opened Green Space in November 2005. Located in Long Island City, Green Space serves the public by offering discounted services to individual artists and dance companies in a spacious 1800 sq. foot facility. Green Space's mission is to serve the Queens and general dance community by providing an affordable and welcoming environment for rehearsals, classes, and performances. Green Space embraces the diversity of Queens as a strength, encouraging exchange on an artistic, educational, and interactive level.
